Woodland glass art

for life.

Slow glass art

made in harmony

with our earth.

Hello there.

I’m Katie Taylor (they/she) and I am the creator of Tree Glass Studios and Gallery in Hampden, Maine.

I make woodland and coastal glass art in slow, classical methods that produce heirloom work.

A percentage of my profits go to causes in Maine that support social justice, equity and mutual aid.

Pre-Order: Petrified Wood and Robin's Egg Glass Coasters
$70.00

The Maine woods are vast and magical. As I've hiked along, I have seen trees expand their beauty to me in ways I thought only existed in my dreams. I’ve started capturing their beauty into home wares that bring the woods indoors.

These coasters capture the layers of petrified wood by firing glass at higher and longer temperatures. When you fire Petrified Wood glass coupled with Robin's Egg blue glass in these conditions, they create a deep reaction in the kiln which brings forward lush waves of colors.

The end result is like having a piece of the wood preserved right on your table.

Set of 4 coasters, approximately 4 x 4 inches each.

Here's how the pre-order works:

  1. You'll order and pay here.

  2. Once I receive the order, I'll get working on creating your coasters.

  3. From start to finish, they'll take me about 2-3 weeks to complete.

  4. Once complete, I'll email you tracking details, package and ship them to you.

Note: Petrified Wood glass is diverse, meaning each piece is unique, and the firing process reacts differently every time. I can't guarantee you that your coasters will look like the pictures here, but they will be similar and elegant. If you'd like to see the coasters before I ship them, let me know in the notes field on checkout.

Stained Glass Botanical Barn Owl and Full Moon
$156.00

Barn owls have to be one of my favorite woodland creatures to spot in Maine. They're thrilling to watch and hold wisdom that spans millennia. Their silent flight and round faces are distinct and captured beautifully in this stained glass window hanging.

I made this piece in the Tiffany style of stained glass art with a variety of textured transparent and opaque stained glass including streaky blue for the sky, deeply textured brown/clear for the wing, green/teal for the leaves, amber streaky for the body and cloudy clear for the moon.

Materials: Stained glass, lead solder, lead frame, hooks and wire for hanging.

Measurements: Approximately 9 x 9 inches

Pine Needle Cache Bowls
$28.00

I was inspired by the great King Pines of Maine when I created these lovely bowls. Winter here in Maine is a frozen wonderland and low hanging branches full of frozen pine needles remind me of a hiking on fresh powdered trails deep in the woods.

The cache bowls were made by slowly fusing three layers of glass nearly 1,500 degrees into one layer - clear and white glass for the base and threads of green and brown glass stringers placed meticulously on top. Once fused, the pieces were then fired a second time into a slumping molds to form the bowl shape.

While likely safe to eat from, I would suggest using for decorative use. Hand wash only. Not recommended to use in the microwave or oven.

Measurements: Approximately 3 1/2 inches in diameter

You are the woods, after all.

You come from the soil, the air, the minerals and plant life.

So does my art.

I have curated and written an artist’s blog full of ideas from my hikes, my lived experiences and YES, lots about glass art.
