Woodland

Slow glass art

made in harmony

with our earth.

Hello there.

I’m Katie Taylor (they/she) and I am the creator of Tree Glass Studios in Hampden, Maine.

I make woodland and coastal glass art in slow, classical methods that produce heirloom work.

A percentage of my profits go to causes in Maine that support social justice, equity and mutual aid.

Pre-Order: Petrified Wood and Robin's Egg Glass Coasters
$70.00

The Maine woods are vast and magical. As I've hiked along, I have seen trees expand their beauty to me in ways I thought only existed in my dreams. I’ve started capturing their beauty into home wares that bring the woods indoors.

These coasters capture the layers of petrified wood by firing glass at higher and longer temperatures. When you fire Petrified Wood glass coupled with Robin's Egg blue glass in these conditions, they create a deep reaction in the kiln which brings forward lush waves of colors.

The end result is like having a piece of the wood preserved right on your table.

Set of 4 coasters, approximately 4 x 4 inches each.

Here's how the pre-order works:

  1. You'll order and pay here.

  2. Once I receive the order, I'll get working on creating your coasters.

  3. From start to finish, they'll take me about 2-3 weeks to complete.

  4. Once complete, I'll email you tracking details, package and ship them to you.

Note: Petrified Wood glass is diverse, meaning each piece is unique, and the firing process reacts differently every time. I can't guarantee you that your coasters will look like the pictures here, but they will be similar and elegant. If you'd like to see the coasters before I ship them, let me know in the notes field on checkout.

Violets Stained Glass Hiking Boot
$195.00

Hiking in the spring here in Maine, I see wildflowers like no other place on earth. I was inspired by the early Johnny Jump Ups (violets), so crafted them as 3D dimensional glass elements to pair with this folksy hiking boot. This piece never fails to warm my spirit with good, wholesome energy.

The boot is made with amber English muffle, a classic textured glass that has been around a long, long time. The 3D Johnny Jump Up flowers are my original design and made with water glass that glow bright in the sun.

Made using the Tiffany-fashion with copper foil and lead.

Materials: Stained glass, lead solder, lead came and wire.

Measurements: Approximately 6 inches x 11 inches

Created by: Katie with Tree Glass Studios

Lake Sky and Ocean Sky Fused Glass Hearts
$16.50

I love the lakes and coastlines of Maine. During the summer, especially, the waters here are full of life and scents and sunshine. Holding one of these hearts is like holding a piece of the sea or lake in the palm of your hand.

The hearts are both indoor and outdoor so work well on a window sill, patio table or nestled in a potted plant. Made with crushed glass and copper oxide (to make the bubbles) layered into heart molds and fired in my kiln.

There are two options to choose from (see images):
A: Ocean Sky
B: Lake Sky

Materials: Fused glass

Measurements: Approximately 2 x 2 inches

Note: Each heart is unique so there will be natural variances in each.

You are the woods, after all.

You come from the soil, the air, the minerals and plant life.

So does my art.

I have curated and written an artist’s blog full of ideas from my hikes, my lived experiences and YES, lots about glass art.
